Question
QUESTION: Mine have quit blooming.  How do I get them to produce flowers again?

ANSWER: Ellen,

You have not said how long you have had them or where you are located. I am going to assume that you have had them since last summer, that you are keeping them indoors all winter and that you are in the United States. Most likely they have quit blooming because they are not getting enough sun and they need a dose of blooming plant fertilizer.

When the lowest temperature is above 50 degrees at night outdoors where you live then the plant can be moved outside in full sun. This plant is a sun lover and it needs sun to produce flowers. It also needs fretilizer. Miracle grow for blooming plansor any other brand of fertilizer for blooming plants will help the plant produce lots of blossoms. Feed it twice a month according to the directions on the fertilizer. If you have more questions feel free to write again. Good luck.

QUESTION: Thanks for your information.  I live in Illinois and have had most of the plants for a couple years 2-3 and one plant for only one.  I bring them in in the winter and I was cutting them back and watering with min water.  I originally thought that cutting them back was causing then not to bloom so quit cutting them back last month (April).  I have bought the blooming fertilizer and will give that a try when i repot them as many of the pots have broken

Answer
Ellen,

Cutting them back will prevent them from blooming but lack of sun while they are indoors keeps them from blooming indoors and lack of fertilizer. If you fertilize them every 2 weeks begining right now all summer you will have blooms all summer and when you bring it indoors again if you can set it in front of a south facing window with the drapes open from dusk to dawn you will have flowers most of the winter with a few brief rest periods.

Don't move them to pots with a diameter more than 2 inches larger than the broken pots you are taking them out of. Make sure the pots have drain holes and drain trays under them. Do not leave them constantly sitting in a drain tray full of water or the roots will rot.

Good luck.
