Triops

Question
Can I feed triops to flytraps?

Thanks,
Sammy

Answer
Hi Sammy,

As long as the insect is small enough to fit into the traps, you can feed it to your plant.  But the real question is, "Do you need to feed your flytrap at all?"

At our nursery, we actually don't regard the feeding of flytraps an essential part of their care.  While animals get their energy from food, plants get their energy from sunlight via photosynthesis.  Plants also supplement their growth by absorbing nutrients from the soil.  In the case of carnivorous plants, they supplement their growth by absorbing nutrients through their leaves.  Insects are really another form of fertilizer.  The most important part of a plant's care, carnivorous or otherwise, is sunlight and water.

Besides, when properly grown, flytraps will catch bugs on their own.  When grown outdoors, a plant has a plethora of insects.  For more information about the proper way to grow flytraps, download our care sheets at:

Good growing!
