underdeveloped traps

Question
Hello, I recently purchased a Nepenthes Ventrata from you at the Portland Saturday Market. The plant is awesome! It is growing like crazy, but the new traps seem to be growing very slowly and I am worried they are underdeveloped. The huge red traps that it had when I purchased it from you are still nice. It sits on my east facing balcony outside. Itis a pretty wide open balcony, so if the sun ever came out here, it would get plenty of light. The humidity is not an issue, so is it too cold or has it not been receiving enough light? If so, should I cut off all the underdeveloped traps or give them more time to develop? Thank you very much!

Answer
Hi Joshua,

Don't worry about the underdeveloped pitchers.  They will open up in due time in the proper light intensity and warmth.  Because our spring is unusually cool and cloudy, we haven't had the intense redness that we expected.  But it'll develop lots more pitchers with nice red colors whenever the sun comes out, so keep the underdeveloped pitchers.  Keep in mind that summer doesn't officially begin in Oregon until the day after the Fourth of July!

Good growing!
