Growing Tropical Pitcher Plant in winter

Question
Hello!
I am thinking to grow my tropical pitcher plants under grow-light on winter time. Will T5 or T8 bulbs will suffice and how many hours will be needed each day. I know you are suggesting to just put on windowsill, it just that we dont really have good windows to put my plants.

Thank you,

Novi

Answer
Hi Novi,

Setting up a fluorescent light shelf is a great idea for supplemental lighting in winter, or if your windows are not adequate.  Either T-5's or T-8's will work fine.  Use "Daylight" spectrum, or 6500K.  If you use T-5's have the plants about a 18 inches under the light.  If you use T-8's keep the plants about 3-4 inches from the tubes.  Keep the plants on a 13 hour day cycle.  If you have a room where you can combine a window with the lights, that's even better.

Good Growing!
