Replanted Saguaro Arm

Question
About a year ago an arm broke off a large saguaro about 2-3 weeks after we had just purchased the property.

The arm was large an itself broke in two pieces. We notice it when we went out the property about two weeks after purchase leading us to believe it had fallen a couple weeks earlier.

I did plant the 3' tip about a foot in the ground and have occasionally given it water. It does not appear to have deteriorated in any way. It looks healthy in fact.

Were it to be rooting ( I will quit watering it at all after having read the answer to the initial question on your blog) will it then grow into another saguaro looking normal or will it remain an arm that抯 rooted but flower?

In short, what will it do if it rooted and it survives in the longer term.?

Answer
Felix,

As with most cactus, it will more than likely branch close to the ground. It won't really look like a normal saguaro, but it will have a unique look. If it has been a year and it looks good, it should be rooted. I would not give it any additional water unless you notice it starting to shrivel. Hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Greg
