the top of my cactus froze

Question
I have a cactus that is just a tall skinny plant- diameter about 3" and about  2 ' tall.  I forgot to cover it and the top froze and is now rotting.  We could still get a frost- but I can keep is covered.  Do I cut back the frozen/rotten part now? Do I put sulfur powder or something else on it?  Do I just leave it and wait until Mother's Day, when we should be frost free?  Help!
Thanks for your help.   It's hard to get cactus info in southern oregon.

Answer
With a sterilized knife, cut the top off until you see an infrastructure without any black, orange, etc.  Should only be green.  Yes, put  sulfur powder on it if you have it or rooting powder or charcoal powder if you don't.  If possible, bring it in.  If not, cover when frost is expected but not covered all the time, and no water till March.

There must be a botanical garden in Oregon or an agricultural extension.  They can give you more info specifically for your region.

I can tell you know what you have to do!
