repotting indoor Meyer Lemon

Question
I have a Meyer lemon in a one gallon nursery pot. When I bought it it was a stick and this season I have had more then a dozen usable lemons. Should I repot this to a larger pot. If so, what are the requirements for soil and fertilizer. Thank you. Beryl Evey

Answer
Hi Beryl...yes it is time to repot your lemon.  You want  a good potting mix soil.  Some pieces of wood chips mixed in to give the roots air if you over water.  You wont have to water quite as much as you did in your old pot until the roots grow into the extra space in the new pot. Do not use a basin on the bottom of your pot to hold water or your lemon tree with eventually rot.

I would suggest a slow release fertilizer, like dynamite or nutra coat from Florikan  one of their great products.   A 10-10-17 would be a good one from their line it lasts 6 months.  You could wait a month or so before fertilizing to get the roots growing, then add your fertilizer.  They are one of the top fertilizers companies in the world.  Give your plants the best.  Also Neem for any bug problems, make sure is is 100 percent pure, read your labels,  another product you will love especially if you do not want to use poison...    kathy
