disease (possibly) on white hydrangea

Question
One of my hydrangeas, happily in an isolated spot, has clusters of tiny white somethings on the backs of the leaves.  The plant otherwise looks healthy.  What is this matter and what can I do to get rid of it?  Is it a threat to my other hydrangeas or plants?

Answer
Sounds like an insect such as scale. I would treat the plant with Bayer Advanced Tree and Shrub Insecticide.  This product is mixed with water and poured on the soil around the base of the plant.  It is taken up systemically and will kill the bugs within a week or so.  It also provides protection from reinfestation for up to a year.  This should help get rid of the bugs and can be used on other plants if needed.  Good Luck.
