crape mrytle bush

Question
I just purchased this bush and after it was planted I noticed some kind of sack attached to the stems. It looks like a worm or something inside.  What is this? How do I prevent this if they are harmful.

Answer
Connie:

I would suspect that this is probably an insect that is just using the stems as a support for the "bag" or more than likely a cocoon and doubtful it is a pest to the crapemyrtle.  Without a picture, it is difficult to ID. You are welcome to send me a closeup photo and I can take a look.
Regards
Steve
