Canker on Evergreen

Question
I have two evergreen trees approximately 3 yrs old. I've been told they have Canker Disease and that I need to spray Bonide All Seasons Spray Oil on them, prune out the diseased branches, and sterilize my garden tools. I've done all of this but it looks like the disease keeps spreading. In fact I'm pruning so much that the trees look deformed now. Is there anything else I can do, or will my trees die?
Thank you,
Gina

Answer
Gina:
Depending on the organism that causes the canker.  If the organism is a fungus, pruning is the best method, however there may become a point where the tree cannot be saved because it has become so involved with the decayed wood and it may be time to start over. Spraying for cankers caused by fungal organisms is worthless in my opinion.

Steve
