Squash bore fly

Question
QUESTION: I have problems with the squash bore and the squash bug I am going to try various organic options from boards on the ground in the morning to herbs and plants that deter them.  I know of radish, marigolds, tansy, nasturtium.  for the bug but the bore is something else.  Are they also subject to the effects of these plant?  I was going to try not raising certain squashes this year because I know there a 1 generation bug but it seems I decided to do it anyway... I love squashes :-) so what other options can you give me.  I will take anything and try all I can (organic preferred) to destroy these pests without harming the good ones.  Can I infest my garden with a certain insect?  I.E. Ladybugs vs aphids.  I leave spiders, praying mantises alone I love them for this but there has to be more.  I did burn last years growth but I had some miscommunication with my brother and couldn't burn it all so I am sure some survived through the winter.  I don't mind other pests as long as it's only a few fruits.  but they kill the whole plant.  help me please.

ANSWER: Don,

The University of Kentucky has an excellent bulletin on these two insects at http://www.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef314.asp from their entomology department. Take a look and post a follow up if you have questions.

QUESTION: It talked alot about insectisides but I would like to know other non insectiside options more towards organic.

Answer
Besides the cultural methods mentioned in the bulletin you could also use neem oil insecticide which is considered organic by many gardeners. It is the oil from the neem tree nut (see http://www.livingwithbugs.com/neem_oil.html for more info about neem oil). Timing of sprays is essential so follow the suggestions in the bulletin cited above. You could also check with your local Cooperative Extension office for the best times to treat for your area.
