Grass gone bad

Question
HI
I bought a house 5 years old in sept 2003.
A month ago, I spread the stage 1 fertilizer which is basically to make the grass green followed by watering the lawn.2 Weeks later, I found that in some places the grass is not much green. So I spread more of fertilizer - it was a different one which was to make the grass green as well as fertilize.
I have started getting patches in different places. The patches are yellow and the grass has stopped growingin those patches.
Can you tell me what it is?
Is it over fertilization or not well-watering or something else? and what can I do about it?
Thanks a lot
Roop

Answer
Sounds like over feeding to me.
Too much fertilizer is sometimes worse than none at all.
too much fertilizer burns the roots, and kills them.
If it is too much fertilizer, I am afraid the only thing you can do is water it until you leech out the excess fertilizer.
