seeding the new lawn in early october

I  live in johnstown ,pa 15904.The nearest big city is pittsburgh which is hour and a half drive .We bought a new house in a subdivision .we decided to do our lawn now since its not properly done .We are hiring a professiosanal company ,they have sprayed round up last week and ther are going to bring 3 inches of topsoil and ressed the lawn but my concern now is that they are starting on 0ct 2nd ,i would like to know is it going to be ok to start a new lawn when its getting cooler now ,plz suggest me what should i do or.Should we wait or this is the right time ?

It is definitely a bit late. The lawn grass will take a long time to germinate (sprout) in cool weather and your may not get a full lawn.

The benefits to trying is that you get a cover in winter which holds moisture in the soil and limits erosion. You may have to overseed the lawn in spring again, however.

If you have the money, you can consider sodding the lawn now (putting down rolls of lawn grass which has been cut away and transported to your home. The rolls are rolled out like a carpet and the sod watered until it has rooted).

Whether you decide to sow seeds or sod, you need to water regularily until the sod has rooted, or the seeds have sprouted. If you allow seeds to dry out before they sprout, they die. Daily watering will be required.

If you are paying a lot for seeding, or the seeding is included in the price, you may want to postpone to spring.
