Leaf mulching/shredding

Question
Have 1/2 acre.  Five very large trees including 1 pin oak.  Takes me 2 months to cut leaves with rider mower; then blow pieces to flower beds.  Sick of this.  Would it be easier to cut leaves with mower; then use lawn sweeper to pick up?  Standing and using blower takes forever!  Good walk-behind shredder w/attached hose is too expensive!

Answer
A mulching mower might resolve your problem. BUT, rent, borrow or hire first. Make sure it does what you want before you contract out or purchase. From my experience "Toro" has the most efficient walk behind mulching mowers. Instead of a blower, I could use one equipped with a catcher to clean up driveways and sidewalks.  I have no experience with riding mulchers. Further, the leaves of the popular oak trees are too small and 'dense'to expect a clean pick-up from the lawn with most equipment.
