moisture

Question
I want to put up a paver wall and backfill with dirt next to my brick house.  The dirt will come above the base of the brick by about 2 feet.  What can I do to prevent a moisture problem with the moisture in the dirt against the brick

Answer
Tracy,

I am assuming you are wanting to construct a raised planting bed.  I would advise against raising the grade 2 feet up on your brick house as this WILL create a moisture and/or water problem in the house structure.

If you are positive this something you want to do contact a local water-proofing professional, the kind that do basements, for their opinion before you get started.  This will allow you to evalaute the installation costs and potential risk/reward of the project.

Good luck

Gary
