OVERSEEDING MISTAKE

Question
I have a lawn that is 3 years old. I live in southern Ohio (Cincinnati).I have over seeded each fall and spring. I have finally have got a full and pretty full lawn.
However, I have made the mistake on one of my seeding sessions of using Kentucky 31 tall fescue grass seed. It is thick, course, ridged, and very light green in color. The color really stands out compared to my other grass. It looks terrible.  The Kentucky 31 grows faster than my other grass, and I have to cut it often to make it look somewhat decent.  I hate the way my lawn looks, all because of a bad choice of seed.  I can live with the different thickness, however the different color bothers me allot. I have applied Scotts Step 1 w/ halts crabgrass preventer.
My question is there any fertilizer or chemical that will 'green up' the Ky 31 to make it darker? Will Scotts step 2 help? Is there any solution for my problem other to deal with it or kill it all? It would take forever to kill each blade of ky 31 with round-up a blade at a time. Would a total or partial renovation be necessary to achieve the nice lawn that I have worked so hard on. I have pictures available of my lawn if that would help. Thanks
-Dave

Answer
First, thanks for your patience...our ISP was down on Friday.

I spoke with the fine folks at Western Turf (westernturf.com)  They send their condolences, but it is a common error.  The good news is that it is "fixable", but it will take a few growing seasons.

Their suggestion was to overseed with Summer Blue (from Scotts), as this variety has "beneficial rizomes" and will eventually choke out the looser growing Kentucky 31.

This is of course for OUR area (Great Basin/Western High Desert), so check with your local turf supplier if this blend  will work in your area - try the local phone book, ask your helpful landscape supply yard who supplies their sod, or go to the other fine folks at Scotts -

We have hot, dry weather in the summer, and this stuff keeps up beautifully with a lush, deep, green even in the summer heat.

Again, thanks for your patience.  Good luck.
