yellowing plants

Question
I recently made a 10'x 10' box garden and purchased 3 yards of garden soil from a local dealer. Planted some Tomatoes, squash, cucumbers and banana peppers. The squash and cucumbers are growing slow and have a yellow color. The tomatoes and banana peppers are growing slow and just don not have that dark green leaf color. I checked the PH of the soil and it was between a 8 and 9, don't know if that matters?. Do you have any suggestions?
                                                  Thanks, Tom

Answer
Dear Tom,
Of course, there can be many causes of plants having difficulties, but my first reaction to your post is one of excess water.  Either the drainage may be poor or simply over watering.  Try backing off of the water some and see if the color of the leaves improve.
I wish you well.
Kind Regards,
KD Liz
