shelf life

Question
Hi,
I have several opened bags of Plant-Tone fertilizer that I have used over 4-5 years.  How long is fertilizer good for? Does it go bad?  I also have some fertilizer spcifically for dafodils that got wet, I put it into a separate, dry box -- is it still good?
Thanks for what ever advice you can give me.
Laura

Answer
Keep a good thing going and leave the Plant-Tone on the shelf.  Indefinitely.  Unless you're going to use it on potted plants, in which case the absence of Soil flora and fauna makes it necessary to use containers of concentrated fertilizer.

For the Garden, Plant-Tone is not in any of the basic food groups.  None of the chemical fertilizers are.  Soil microbes 'eat' Organic Matter and generate food for Grass and Garden Plants.

With regard to your Daffodils, I would like to know what that 'specific' Daffodil fertilizer is, or at least its chemical analysis.  Some forms of Nitrogen are very bad for Daffodils; seems they feed pathogens instead of the Bulbs, and cause rotting and other problems.

'Dry' of course is necessary when you are dealing with concentrated powders.  They do not 'spoil' the way antibiotics would, or the way Bananas or Milk would spoil.
