Garden Paving: Enhance Your Home And Landscape

You may have a beautiful lawn with many interesting flowers, shrubs, trees, and bushes. Landscaping is crucial to making your yard look appealing and attractive. However, if you plan on showing it off to your friends or visitors, it is a good idea to add some garden paths on which to walk. This will add to the beauty of your overall design and allow you to show it off more. It will also keep you from getting wet or dirty feet after a rain or ruining your hard-earned lawn by trampling on it. Garden paving can be as simple and inexpensive or elaborate and high cost as you wish.

There are many different materials from which you can choose. These include: stone, concrete stepping stones, brick, slate, or flagstone. If you are a do-it-yourself man, you could even make your on concrete stones with a mold. This does take a lot of extra work, but it will save you money in the long run if you are willing to attempt it.

When choosing material, it will be important to note whether or not this will be a permanent garden path for your yard. If you plan on moving it at any point, flagstone will not be a good choice. It is extremely heavy and does not relocate well. Any other materials can be moved, although some are easier to do so than others.

The easiest choice that can be moved and is made with permanent materials is the stepping stones. This choice is gives you a lot of options to consider as well. The stones can be placed close together or spaced apart. You can also choose to allow plants to grow up next them for a more natural cottage path look, or you can use sand or other material to keep plants and weeds from growing around the stones.

If you need a very temporary material for your garden path, you could choose wood chips, gravel, stone, shredded bark, or wood blocks. This investment will be cheaper than rock or concrete, but take into account that accordingly it will not last as long.

Substances such as wood ships or bark must be kept up with yearly or replaced with something else as they decompose. You will also need to consider an edging piece to keep the pieces from washing into your lawn and making a mess.

You also need to take into account the color of the materials you are using. It should compliment the overall scheme of your home and established landscape properties. Both brick and rock can be laid in a way that will create beautiful patterns and shapes. You need to do some research and come up with a plan that you will like. Also drive around some local neighborhoods to come up with some inspiration. There are numerous books that should be available at your local library, and the Internet is always a good source for information.

Paving can really bring your garden to life if it is done properly. You can also add special effects and other dimensions to a garden path that will enhance its appearance greatly. If you are working with a contractor, you can also ask them for special design ideas for you to consider before implementing your plan.
