Gardening Is Much Simpler With These Tips

If you have visions of a healthy, lush, green garden, there are things you should consider on your way to that goal. Garden can involve back-breaking labor, but it can also be very enjoyable. Try these hints to bring the fun out in gardening.

Store autumn leaves in plastic bags for use as compost when you plant your garden. This can be done in the fall season after you have raked leaves in your yard. Store the bagged leaves in a warm place. Once spring rolls around, your yard will also have soil substance perfect for addition to the compost pile.

Pest control is one of the hardest things about growing a vegetable garden. While chemicals can help with pest control, you should avoid using overly harsh ones, as veggies you grow in your garden are meant for eating. So to help you control the pests that may invade your garden, you will want to stay vigilant. If you catch pests early, you can remove them by hand effectively.

Before you begin planting your garden, be sure to put up a protective fence. You need to keep something in place just to keep out any unwanted animals, while also making sure your plants are safe and will reach their full potential.

Use fall colors to your advantage. A lot of shrubs, vines and trees will transform your garden into a colorful firework during the fall. The key to this transformation is cessation of chlorophyll production. This causes the green pigment coloring to give way and reveal the plant's true colors. You should be sure that your plants recieve adequate sunlight. Aim to boost their sunlight during the afternoon, when the sun peaks. If you are interested in spectacular fall colors, get some maple, boston ivy, chestnut, barbery or burning bush.

Depending on what type of plants you're growing inside, you may need a humid environment. You can increase the humidity for your plants, without making your home uncomfortable, by grouping several plants in one large pot. Misting your houseplants a few times a day is another technique to create humidity for them.

Fertilizing is an important step in preparing your garden soil. Manure helps your plants grow. Make sure you use a product that is commercially composted so you don't risk adding pathogens to your garden. Although there are plenty of fertilizer choices, don't be concerned with which one you use; just be sure to use one.

Think about adding some berry-producing evergreens to your landscaping. They offer terrific color during the dreariest times of the year when nothing else you have planted has any hue remaining. Some evergreens that will add life to your yard in the wintertime are the American Cranberrybush, Common Snowberry, Winterberry, and American holly.

Do not rush planting seeds in your garden. First, add moisture to the soil where you will be planting. Next, you will want to evenly distribute your seeds to ensure sufficient growing space. Multiply the size of each seed by three and bury the seed that deep. Make sure you are not burying the seeds that need light to grow.

As mentioned earlier, gardening is a great hobby that benefits highly from increased knowledge about it. Taking this advice and using it wisely will help your garden grow properly. Apply some of the tips you just read and, in no time, you'll be amazed at what you can with your garden.
