Use This Advice To Become An Organic Gardening Expert

Organic gardens have become very popular in recent years as people start to understand the consequences of corporate farming techniques. Many people who choose to live this lifestyle grow their own plants and herbs, so they can benefit from them. Focus on the fantastic organic gardening tips laid out below.

It's time to plant some organic garlic. It's best to plant garlic cloves in either spring or fall. Make sure the soil is drained well. Plant them approximately 4 inches apart at a depth of 1 or 2 inches beneath the surface of the soil with the pointed end facing upward. Cut the green garlic shoots and use them as a substitute for chives or scallions. When the top turns brown, it is time to harvest the bulbs. You should dry them outside in a sunny spot for a couple of days to harden the skin. They could be stored in an area that is cold, tied or loose in bunches.

If you want a sustainable garden, leave a part of it undisturbed for wildlife to enjoy. Doing this will allow creatures that help plants to produce and pollinate to continue their actions, which will have a positive effect on the garden you develop.

Create a raised bed for your garden out of stone, bricks or untreated wood. If you choose to use wood to construct your bed, choose a species that is naturally resistant to rot and avoid treated wood entirely. Some good woods are locust, cedar and cypress. In order to avoid toxic substances from getting into the ground and perhaps into your vegetables, avoid using treated wood to enclose or demarcate different sections of your vegetable garden. If you have some space treated wood, you can still use it, however, be sure to line it with some type of barrier like plastic sheeting.

Just by doing a few things, you can make a garden for perennials. Use a spade to cut and flip over your turf, then cover the new bed with wood chips. In about 2 weeks, you will be able to plant flowers in your new bed.

Take your seedlings and saplings to a cooler spot once they are established. Take your plants out of the heat once they start to grow. If you used plastic wrap to insulate your seedlings, you should now remove it. Keep an eye on your seeds in order to know when you should do this.

Be sure you know both when and how, to properly water your organic plants. A soaker hose would be the best tool to use.. A soaker hose can get water to the bottom of the plant and it will ensure you do not lose any moisture. Many experts advise that you water your plants early in the morning.

If slugs are a problem in your garden, use a beer trap to kill them naturally. Bury a jar in the garden with it's mouth open and level to the ground. Now, fill the jar with beer to approximately an inch below the lip. Slugs will be attracted by the beer and fall into the jar.

The more organic gardening tips you are able to pick up, the easier gardening will eventually become for you. Keep in mind that these pointers are simply the tip of the iceberg.
