The Modern day greenhouses are available in four types they are the lean-to, span roof type, the Dutch light kind and the hexagonal type. The lean-to are one of the most convenient forms of greenhouses as it make use of integrating the already available wall from the building as if it is a part of design.

The span roof type is a greenhouse which could be built on relatively short walls having a pitched roof. The hexagonal types of greenhouses are dome shaped with angular sides. The Dutch light type is designed in a way that it should allow maximum light to enter into the house via slopping sides. These are best for growing border crops.

While selecting one from the lot, the materials from which the main structure is built should also be considered. The most common and widely used materials for building main structures are timber, aluminum or steel, or from galvanized pipe.Timber frames are one of the most widely used materials and are traditional choice for gardening greenhouses.

For covering the structure of the greenhouses, glass is one of the most popularly used traditional materials. These are available in several designs with a varied range of styles or architecture. The glass type greenhouses assure a weather tight structure that cut down on the cost of heat and retains the humidity.

Fiberglass type is another material which is used for covering the structure of greenhouses. These are available in the panel of about eight to twelve feet long and twenty four to forty eight inch in width and in the thickness that ranges from the 3/64 to 3/32 of an inch. These are a bit expensive options similarly as glass types. If you want to buy a fiberglass go for the clearest grade avoiding the colored type.

Plastic is another material that is gaining popularity quite rapidly these days. These gain the heat similarly as glass greenhouses do.The quality of crops that are grown under the plastic greenhouses are similar to the crop those grown under glass. The building cost of the plastic type greenhouses are almost 1/6 to 1/10 of the glass type. These are exempted from taxes or carry low assessment rate of tax.
