Adding Color To Your Vegetable Garden

With spring just around the corner it is just about time to start thinking up plans for your vegetable garden this year if you are planning to have one. It doesn't get much better than being able to walk out into your backyard and pluck fresh vegetables from the ground right before= you are ready to use them. It won't be long before you will be able to look out the window and see that flourishing patch of greenery in your yard and the thought is oh so refreshing. But wouldn't it be nice to add a little color to your vegetable garden this year? Green is great but color is even better and it is simple to color up your garden a little too. Many other plants can be grown in your vegetable garden and some may even offer a bit of a benefit to your much loved fresh veggies. So being that spring is so near it is important to know which varieties of plants you will want to grow along with your vegetables so that you can prepare your garden for such things at the same time you are preparing it for your vegetables. Here are just a few ideas of how you can add that pop of color to your vegetable garden this year.

- One way to add some bold color to your vegetable garden is to add in some ornamental flowers. Wild flowers in particular will add a wide variety of color and as an added bonus will also help to keep certain pests out of your garden and from destroying beloved vegetable plants. Such flowers will also provide a blanket of protection from things such as toads. Bold, bright colored marigolds are also said to benefit your garden by keeping certain pests away and these particularly ward off insects which can be very damaging to your plants. Choose to line your garden with flowers or make room for them in the garden and you will not only enjoy their beauty but benefit from them as well.

- Another great and useful way to add color to your vegetable garden is to plant various herbs throughout. Some herbs have a hint of color to the leave themselves while others bloom colorful flowers on them. For example Swiss chard has a variety of colors in its leaves as does a certain type of sage. Types of basil can have tones of purple in it as well. And flowers are common among a number of herbs especially if you allow some of them to overgrow a bit. The best thing about this is that you can also use the herbs that you grow for color. You get two benefits from growing one type of plant.

Finally, adding some sort of colored stone or brick pathway through your garden is another way to add a bit of color. It will be a fairly simple process and the joy you get from it will be tremendous.

Green gardens are great but why not add a little color to your life by adding color to your vegetable garden this year.
