Care For Your Acreage The Natural Way

While owning a good amount of acreage is generally a wonderful thing, keeping this larger property maintained can be a chore. There are ways to limit the amount of work that you have to do on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.

Simple landscaping is far easier to maintain than a property filled with many gardens and shrubbery. Unless you truly enjoy spending many hours during the week, weeding, pruning and trimming, an unadorned landscape is usually best. Keep flower beds by the house, where they are easy to maintain. Place your vegetable or rose garden close to a water source so that you don’t have to lug heavy water each day.

Consider planting items that are indigenous to your local area. These items are easier to care for and thrive better simply because they are meant to grow in your local soil and withstand local weather conditions. This also includes selecting the best type of grass for your area.

Grass is always a tricky business, but you can make it easier with proper soil and the right amount of water. You will need to test the pH balance of your soil and check to make sure that it has just the right amount of acidity; otherwise, you will need to treat it accordingly. Don’t mow the grass too short, either, keep the height at about 2.5 to 3 inches. Many people over water their lawns, and grass usually only needs about an inch of water per week. Rather than water just a little all week, give it one or two really good soaks instead.

Often people with large properties have a fun addition, such as a lake or a pond. These do require additional maintenance, but this doesn’t have to require a great deal of time. Consider using a natural, safe product such as the AquaSpherePRO by Healthy Ponds. This item uses a combination of helpful strains of bacteria to keep the water clean and balanced. If you have other pond problems, such as excessive algae, weeds or other issues, there are other types of Healthy Ponds products to consider using.

The AquaSpheres are easy to use; simply toss in enough spheres to compensate for your pond size and the product goes to work immediately to keep the water clean. Each sphere will treat water for up to 30 days, and then you simply toss in new spheres. You can also purchase products that naturally deal with algae, weeds and sunlight penetration. All of the products have been approved by veterinarians and are safe for wildlife, pets and people.

In addition, if your yardage has fountains, koi ponds, birth baths, rain barrels or other smaller water features, there are also safe Healthy Pond items that will keep these clean using the same strategy of helpful bacteria. These products are an eco-friendly solution to keeping water clean.
