How to Establish a Terrarium Garden

ESTABLISHING A TERRARIUM GARDEN 

Terrarium gardening is the application of miniature garden or landscape. This concept was derived from plants in enclosed containers  known as the Wardian case, an almost airtight case with glass sides and top. 

This kind of gardening has been known long time ago, but it was only given attention lately due to its attractive appearance especially in indoors. 

Due to the demand of terrarium garden today, there are now lots of variations container making use of available materials found in the locality. 

One material most commonly used is the bottle for terrarium gardening. 

Containers for bottle garden 

1)   wine glass                     5) empty glass gallon container

2)   old aquarium                  6) box enclosed by mesh wire 

3)   glass bowl                      7) box enclosed with glass on all sides 

4)   fancy-shape bottle 

How Terrarium garden is constructed 

1)   Prepare a light, sandy loam soil rich in organic matter. 

2)   Add a ground charcoal for better aeration and better water absorption. 

3)   Make an improvised tools such as; spoon, forks, forceps, and bamboo sticks. These materials will make your job easier especially for narrow-necked bottles. 

4)   Make your terrarium a small replica of a landscape with small hills, slopes and paths, covered with miniature vegetations.

3)   Maranta prayer plant       9) Heart-leaved philodendron
