Grow Plants Indoors Successfully With Hydroponic Systems

Gardening used to be a tedious task when we saw our parents work daily to cultivate and take care of every plant in the yard. Now that everything is revolutionized, the hobby of gardening and the efforts that come along with it can now be convenient by opting for hydroponic systems. It is easy to find out more about these products and what they can do to create an improved ambiance inside your own home.

The hydroponic system is a simple method to grow plants in any area. Yes, indoor gardening is now possible with these amazing products to lessen time-consuming hours of traditional gardening. This system works using four methods: the wick system, water culture, ebb and flow, and aeroponic.

Wick system

This system is done in a passive way which means that there are no parts to be moved while growing a plant. The plant is immersed within a solution containing nutrients and other substances that is needed for healthy growth. The only thing that this system requires is a large amount of water especially for plants that needs more water for proper growth.

The Flood and Drain Method (Ebb and Flow)

This method needs a pump that is used to flood the plants with the nutrient solution. The solution works by supplying needed substances at a temporary phase as the solution is drained back into the reservoir. The pump works with its own timer to flow the nutrients in and out of the plant several times a day. The time interval needed to water the plants is dependent on the type of plant, the humidity, the temperature of the surroundings, and the chemistry of the solution used.

Water culture

Using this method, Styrofoam is used to grow plants. This Styrofoam floats in the nutrient solution with air stones under it to provide much needed carbon dioxide for proper growth. This is the simplest hydroponic system that can be done even by children. Water culture is also the preferred method for growing lettuce and other fast-growing plants.

Aeroponic

This is a modernized system in which the roots are exposed to the air. The roots of the plants lay hanging in a container with a solution mist applied it. The pertinent misting is done at a minute interval since the roots tend to dry out rapidly when they are exposed.

These are the basic methods of hydroponic systems. There are other methods to grow plants indoors as modern science continuously comes up with ways to make gardening more convenient. To know more about what system works well for you, visit your local gardening store.
