Indoor Vegetable Gardens -- Why You Should Have One

More and more these days, people are increasingly aware of the benefits of eating well. One of the best ways to do that is by growing your own vegetables and fruits right where you live. Vegetable garden popularity is increasing every year and rightly so. Home grown vegetables are healthier, tastier, and just plain more enjoyable to eat.

Indoor vegetable gardens are one of the most versatile types of gardening that anyone can easily do inside their home, office, or any other enclosed structure. Most people think they need a huge area in their yard to start a vegetable garden, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Just about any plant will grow indoors when set up and maintained properly. You can grow a variety of vegetables in just about any space available throughout your home.

Many who have never grown plants assume they need a lot of experience or know how to grow vegetables. This is not true. You can grow vegetables indoors easier than outdoors in many cases. Consider the fact that outdoor gardens have to contend with the elements he weather throws at them. There are also all types of predators that love to eat those same tasty vegetables and fruits that you will be anxiously awaiting. Growing your vegetables indoors gives you an immediate advantage against all these threats.

Indoor vegetable gardens often require less time and effort from the gardener than outdoor gardens. Since the climate indoors stays constant, it makes it easier for you, the grower, to care for your beautiful new garden. You will find that you consume less water, fertilizer, and maybe most importantly, personal energy. The time saved alone makes it a very attractive option.

Some plants cannot survive or produce in certain climates. Indoor gardens can really help you overcome this obstacle. For instance, tomatoes really enjoy a consistent warm climate of 70 degrees or more. This is a problem in some regions with the wrong climate. Likewise, lettuce enjoys cooler temperature of 70 degrees or less ideally. Do you see something these two plants have in common? Yes. They both can thrive in the average indoor environment of 70 degrees, the inside temperature of most homes. If yours is higher or lower than, it doesn’t make too much difference. Indoor living conditions are great for most plants.

Another benefit of indoor vegetable gardens is that they don’t rely on the typical growing seasons. You can grow your plants year around, and who wouldn’t like to have fresh produce in the winter?

These are just a few advantages of indoor gardening and there are so many more that you will discover along the way.
