Rid Pests Organically | Organic Pest Control

The first thing gardeners and home owners turn to when it comes to pests is a spray. The problem with killing bugs is that you can't target which bugs to kill or deter with sprays. Many of the bugs you are killing could be helping ward off other infestations.

If you having a continuous year-after-year problem in your garden or home of unwanted pests you may want to first consider what you have planted around your home or garden. Could you actually be attracting unwanted pests?

For example: did you know that stink bugs are highly attracted to sun flowers? Many people plant sunflowers close to their homes or are a product of bird seed and feeders. If you have a stink bug infestation and you have sunflowers you may want to consider cutting these down.

You could also try planting sunflowers in a remote part of your yard to deter stink bugs from crowding your home.

Another pest which often can be extremely annoying is ants. These little critters can crawl in anywhere and eat a variety of foods. The good news is there's a safe organic pest control solution that is also safe for pets and children. Baking soda. Sprinkle around your homes exterior or places where there is obvious ant traffic.

Flying pests are often attracted to lights. A nice set of outdoor solar garden lights is a great organic way of pest control. These lights should disperse bugs through out the landscape instead of solely on your front stoop.

If you seem to be having a huge problem with flies in your home you may want to consider a reusable trap. You can make one from cutting a 2 liter soda bottle in half, reversing the top end and re inserting. fill with a bit of sugar water and set out or hang. You can also buy one online or at your local home improvement/gardening store pre-baited.

A good all-around measure in organic pest control is to plant some deterrent plants near to the home. A good option for these is plants with a powerful smell. Garlic and chives are a popular choice because of their added usefulness as is mint and other herbs. Which ever plants you choose make sure you enjoy the scent. Try and plant as close to your home as possible but remember to allow them enough sunlight.

A great way to make your own organic garden spray is just to crush some garlic and strain it thru some water. Spraying this around your home inside and out will also help to eliminate pests. This will also work as an organic bug killer for some flying insects.
