Choosing the Right Lighting For Your Home

If you have just moved into a new property or simply want to revamp and brighten up your existing home then lighting may be an option for you. It is one of the cheapest ways of changing the look and feel of any room and gives any space a warming and inviting glow. You will sometimes have to look through hundreds of catalogues to find the right light for you, but there are some simple tips that will help the whole process move forward a lot quicker. This article will list some of the most common rooms in the house and outline which light is better suited in these environments, whilst also giving you their benefits.

Living area

The living area is usually one of the primary places for relaxation. It is the space in which you relax and unwind for the evening in a nice comfortable chair with a glass of wine. When choosing lighting for this room you don't want to overdo it, so avoid harsh spotlights and directional lights as they will ruin the calming nature of the whole room. The best type of light for this space is either a chandelier or a few small uplighters. Chandeliers are a firm favourite as not only do they look elegant and stylish, they also provide the room with small bursts of energy that come together to form a very delicate light source. The uplighter is another good choice for the living room, as it directs the light upwards and outwards stopping the light from becoming too harsh.

Kitchen

A lot of people make the mistake of being too gentle with their lighting in their kitchen and only install a tiny light source with low power bulbs. Kitchens are used for preparing food, so you need as much light as you can get to avoid chopping off one of your fingers! The perfect light for this room is the spotlight as they can be evenly spaced on you ceiling to provide maximum coverage. Directional lighting is also a good choice as you can choose where to angle the light in order to illuminate certain areas of the kitchen.

Bedrooms

Bedrooms usually require ambient lighting to allow you to unwind ready for sleep. One of the mistakes that people make in the bedroom when we talk about lighting is putting too many of them in the room. We often have a large light in the centre of the room, with a floor lamp and several bedside lamps. We simply do not need this many lights in the bedroom and in fact it may be more of a hindrance to have this amount of lighting when you are trying to sleep. A simple and small light fitting is ample, along with ambient light source for when you are reading at night.

There are lots of choices to be made when you purchase the lights for your home, but this article has given you some tips to help make those decisions easier.
