Soil is too wet

Question
Last year we planted azaelas along the front of our house, and they did real good until the end of the summer, they began dying.  My step-mom said she thought they were burning because the soil stayed too wet and they got too much sun (it gets sun from morning to noon).  We have a tin roof and the water drips off a lot, but my husband doesn't want to put up a gutter.  Do you have any suggestions for how to make the soil stay drier or what plants to put there that can tolerate wet and sun?  We live in North East Louisiana.

Answer
HI Tara
no matter which plants you put there you will still have the same problem. you have to increase the soil drainage.
my suguestion to you is to build a raised bed for the azaleas to allow the water to move out of the root zone a little faster and mulch them to keep the roots cool from the hot sun.  Good Luck  Larry  ;-)
