Draining

Question
QUESTION: Hello,

After a long construction around my house, the soil is very compact and hard. My landscaper has crape the land and spread a layer of soil with a newly grass carpet and irrigation system.

It's seem there's a draining problem ,i can feel it's very soft (watering) underneath of the grass and black spots has starting to forms and starting to die especially where it's a lower area.

Now i start to lower the time of irrigation (water) but it's looks too late, yellow spots has already showed.

Please tell us what to to . Thanks

Jimmy

ANSWER: Hi Jimmy, first thing you do is call the landscaper and have him get his "self" back out there.  It sounds like fungal problems due to improper watering, so he needs to check the heads and adjust the timing and apply a fungicide if needed.  Jim

QUESTION:
Hi,
Do we still have to aerate the lawn ? if yes, when is a good time to do it ?
And what do i have to do to bring back the dead grass (spots) ?
Thanks,
Jimmy

Answer
If it's fungal, you'll need to treat it with a fungicide before it will grow back or you re-seed.  If the sod/grass was planted properly, there should be no need to aerate.  If the soil is like concrete, then aeration makes sense, but your landscaper should have done that. It would explain your dead grass though, if he didn't prepare the soil properly before planting.  Jim
