Question -
I have a bird bath and bought a new fountain pump for it. Im having trouble with my bird bath. I add the water then i connect the fountain pump and all goes well for 20 minutes. Then all of a sudden the water startes going lower and evaporates and see no more water. Its in a shady area? What the problem?
Answer -
Well, Debbie only thing I can think of it is leaking out somehow. The water will not evaporate that fast. Is there anything different about this bath? Is the wind blowing the water away? Is there anyway the water can leak out of the bottom? You are going to watch it closely something is not right.

I have a 130 gallon fountain pump is this to big for my birdbath? It does splash when i turn it on for about 1 minute or so. Then it goes back pumping normal. I checked no leaks. Go to my website to see my birdbath.   http://community.webshots.com/user/deb789

Answer
That is probably your problem, that is a lot of water to pump in such a small area. It can't help but splash or the wind catch the stream. What you might try is a small tap or valve in the line going to the fountain. Just turn the valve or tap on a little, you will have to play with it to get the desired flow with a minimum of splashing. The only problem is the pressure may increase. Try the valve first, failing that I would get a small pump 20 or 30 gallons.

         Hope this Helps
