Boganvillia (sp?) Plant

Question
I bought a Boganvillia plant and was told to put it in a sunny location and water it profusely.  It did well for a time, but then not so good.  While in Hawaii, a botanist told me to mistreat the plant (not water it very much) and it will flourish.  Pls advise.  Thank you.

Answer
Dear Dick, Always listen to Hawaiian botanists giving free advice.  He's right.  Bouganvillias do best when stressed.  Hold back the water, forget it exists occasionally, then go in and scream obscenities at it.  It will love you for it.  Also, if you want to get it blooming, strip off most of the leaves, and it will come back trying to be gorgeous.  I am not sure why this mistreatment works, but it does in bouganvillias.  Good luck.  Melissa
