Bananna Tree and palm plants

Question
I was told to cut my bananna trees back at approx. waist high.  They don't seem to be growing back very well.  I also have two palm plants that frost killed all foilage.  The stalk is still green and seems to be alive although the foilage is very brown and dry.

Answer
Hi Billy, The Bananas should have shown new growth from the cut pseudostem (trunk) within days (from center of cut..), the only reason this would not occur is if the Banana had already fruited; the new growth would begin with just an off white stem like growth that will eventually leaf out. Your Palms are in a "wait and see" stage, you need to give them time to see if they are still viable; new growth will emerge from a center spear if they are, if within about a month there is no emergence, then the Palm is probably dead.
