Autumn sage & cape honeysuckle

Question
I live in Las Vegas.  We have two cape honey suckle and 6 Autumn Sage.   I cut them back to about two inches from the ground.  My wife thought I should have left them alone.
Did I make a mistake?

Answer
Hi Jack,
Your plants are going to be fine.  It never hurts to cut a plant back in the winter.  These plants will recover and be bushier.  Plants don't like a lot of old, dead or otherwise superfluous debris around them, it tends to stunt them.  You should be fine this spring.
thx,
Tom
