QUESTION: im sorry i live in new jersey the questions is for hosta and black eyed susie

Answer
Hi Joe,
Thanx for your question.  With the hostas, I wouldn't do anything with them.  Once it gets cold, the leaves will shrivel up and disappear.  The plant will re-emerge in the spring when it gets warmer.  These are tough plants and you shouldn't have to do much to take care of them.  With regard to the Black-Eyed-Susan?  I would cut it back to the ground as soon as it is finished blooming.  I'd probably wait until the end of September to do that unless it is looking particularly messy.  Clear all the debris and dead material away from the plant to reduce chance of disease.  I hope this helps.
Tom
