Cattelays

Question
My Cats will grow new shoots with left but will not send out a flower bud. They appear healthly - the new shoot stem is big and full. I have had there out of bloom Cats for 1 year and one even grew two shoots, but no flower. What else do they need?

Thank you.

Answer
Hello Linda,

You didn't mention where you live or how you have been growing your catts, with that in mind here are some suggestions on what catts need to produce blooms.

Usually, the primary reason catts produce new growths but not blooms is because they have not been grown in high enough sunlight.  Depending upon where you live, catts should be grown in full to moderate sunlight during much of the year.  If you live in the northern part of the U.S. or Canada, you probably can grow them in full direct sunlight but if you live in the southern states you should grow them under 50% shade in summer.  Look at the leaves, dark green means not enough sunlight while light green is just right, yellow-ish means too much.

It probably is too late in the year to get them to bloom but next year try to grow them in more sunlight and they should produce blooms.

Hope this helped.  Good luck and good growing.
