non-flowering orchids

Question
Hi,
I have a variety of orchids. I get them to live, but not flower! I read that I should feed them weakly, weekly. I've been doing that all winter, but no buds... Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Maria,

You did not mention what type of orchids you have which makes suggesting what to do difficult.

Orchids are not all alike, just like we humans.  While many orchids can be grown under similar conditions, there are others that require more or less of certain growing conditions.  Orchids come from just about every area of the earth except Antarctica, so you can imagine that the ones from a steamy jungle will not be happy in hot dry conditions and vice versa.

If you can find out what types of orchids you have and write back, I'll try to help with some suggestions.  Check to see if there are plastic tags with the orchids name on them, such as Phalaenopsis, Dendrobium, SLC, Cattleya, etc.  It also would be helpful to know where you live so I can give you suggestions to fit your growing conditions.
