Orchid Help(1)

Question

orchid
Hi Sir,

I found some black spots and yellowing on my orchid. Is it fungal infection? I would mist the potting medium and plant in the early morning daily. Will attach your pictures for your examination. Thank you.

Answer
Good to hear from you Alfredo.  Thanks for the picture.  I think, if you haven't unpotted the plant, you should.  Check the roots.  At least one major problem here is likely root rot from keeping the potting mix too wet.  This you can confirm, however, by examining the roots. It is possible that you also have mealy bugs near the base of the plant (white fuzzy insects) but the picture is not magnified enough to be sure.  It could instead be a white mold growth. If root rot is present, we can't discount additional problems such as a fungal infection due to the weakened condition of the plant. So, first check out the root problem.  Also remove any dead leaves or portions of damaged leaves. It wouldn't hurt to soak the plant in an antifungal solution before repotting it and dry the plant out and grow it under somewhat drier conditions.
