cymbidium

Question
Dear sirs,

i have 5 years cymbidium experience like you i like also cymbidiums.
i am interested in cymbidium black champion.

Could you help me find this one.

thanks,

charlie

Answer
Unless an orchid is registered with the Royal Horticulture Society which publishes the name. breeder, parentage, etc, it is practically impossible to know who grows this plant.  Many growers forego this registration (perhaps due to cost) and simply assign an unregistered name.  This is unfortunate because the plant then cannot receive awards from AOS, RHS, or JOS.  This diminishes its value to orchid hobbyists.

Apart from registration information, there are two long shots: one is to ask people displaying or selling the plant with the name or google the name of the hybrid to see if you can locate a cymbidium with that name.

I should add that my registration records are a bit out of date so if it was registered within the past year or so, I would not have that information.
