Trying to identify a plant

Question
Greetings,

I recently saved/stole/adopted (depends how you look at it,) a plant from my school library. The librarian who had several plants in her office had left the school and did not take them with her. Unfortunately, several weeks had passed and it looks like nobody had watered them and only one was able to hang on, which I have adopted and brought home. I just wanted to try and figure out what type of plant it is so I can take care of it best. (I've never had a plant before.) It is a green plant, with long skinny, spider like leaves. New growth comes out of the top of the plant, straight up until it falls into a larger spider-like extension. Each leaf is green, but there is a red, thin long line around the outside of every leaf. I believe it is appx.16 inches tall. The leaves are thin. I replanted it into a larger pot because the original pot was quite small

I appreciate any information you can give me.

Thank you

Joseph,

You have a Dracaena marginata tri-color. At the above website you can see what a healthy one looks like. It likes bright light but no sun shining on it. Be careful not to overwater it. Never let it sit in a drain tray of water. It likes to dry out well between waterings. It is an easy plant that is pretty tough as you know since it is what survived. If you have more questions write again.
