Indoor sunless plants

Question
I am looking for a plant that takes no sunlight, well and is tropical, large and tree-like.  What do you recommend?

Chris

Answer
Hi Chris,

I don't know what you mean by "sunless." All plants need some light to survive, but many do just fine without sun shining directly on their leaves. A north windowsill would be an example of that. Some low light plants will do well under fluorescent lights without any natural light at all.

Here are a few "low light" plants that need some light, but less than most all others.

Dracaena 'Janet Craig'
Pothos
Chinese evergreen
ZZ plant
Parlor palm
Philodendron
Peace lily

None of these are "tree-like," but the Dracaena is quite tall.

I have written two article, one on assessing light and the other on low light plants. I will email them to anyone who contact's me directly at my email address below.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
