indoor plant containers

Question
Hi,
Could you please let me know, for indoor house plants, which container is best? With the drainage or without the drainage? Why?
Thanks,
Heena

Answer
Heena,
I am not sure how to answer your question, like are you referring to a specific kind of plant?  African violets?  In general, all plants, outdoor or houseplants, should be kept in containers with drainage holes.  To not do that means that the soil sits all the time in whatever moisture it is given.  A plant can get rid of any extra water through the drainage holes.  If you have a container you wish to use that is without the holes you can either drill some holes in the bottom of it, or place the plant with a drainage pot INSIDE the attractive container.  This method is a favorite of most plant lovers.  This way they get to use the container they like, and their plant stays in a pot with drainage.  Also, for houseplants this method is good because the larger container does not have drainage holes and therefore does not leak wter onto your floor.

If I did not answer your question please let me know.
