Hibiscus dangerous to house cats?

Question
Me and my wife were just gifted two large hibiscus plants. They're huge and beatiful! Anyway, we live in Ohio and the gifters told us the plants should live indoors over the winter.

The problem is we have three house cats. Do we need to be concerned with our cats eating the hibiscus leaves?

I've left the plants in the garage because we can't seem to find a sure answer about this.

Thanks for your time!

Answer
Matt,

No hibiscus is not poisonous to cats or anything else. In fact the dried flowers are used in herbal teas for people. However, the cats could be toxic to the hibiscus plants in that they can do a lot of damage  to those beautiful plants.

Just a bit of advice, when the plants are done blooming you can prune the plants back by cutting the large branches back by half. Give them as much sun as possible and fertilize with blooming plant fertilizer. Good luck.
