Night Blooming Jasmine plant

Question
Hi,

I just recently got a night blooming jasmine plant. And I was really excited to get it because I've heard great things about how it smells at night etc. And it's growing wonderfully - green leaves and all, but sadly no blooms.

I've only had it for about a month.  It currently sits in a 7in pot and gets watered regularly (about 2x a week).  Why doesn't it flower?  Sould I consider getting a particular type of fertilizer for it or is it one of those "a watched pot never boils" type of syndrome?

Thanks!
Judy

Answer
Hi Judy,

Are you keeping your Cestrum nocturnum indoors? If so, it will not bloom easily as it requires a lot of light all day long. It must also be kept very tightly potted and given a rest period in the winter. This plant is usually grown in greenhouses or outdoors in light shade. Without proper light and a winter rest, it struggles to flower.

However, it is still early and yours may yet flower for you if it was prepared properly by the grower.

Fertilizer applied monthly at half strength might help a bit.

Make sure the surface of the soil is very dry before you water.

Good luck with this challenging plant.
