Jade House Plants

Question
My husband gave me this Jade Plant for Mother's Day about 5 years ago. I have pruned it several times, remains I put in another pot and they are doing fine. My question is that my neighbor stated she planted one of her Jade house plant in the yard and it did great. Is that possible? In the winter we do have frost and freezing temps, I live in SC.

Thank you,

Answer
Beverly,

Your neighbor may have had a different plant and thought it was a jade or she is having a bit of a memory problem. It can go outdoors in the summer in a shady location so it doesn't get sunburned but needs to back indoors when the night temperatures start dropping below 50 degrees. It definitely will not survive a night outdoors below 32 degrees. For it to stay outside you would have to create an insulated 2 layered glass box that you could put over it on cold nights and take off in the morning so it would not get burned. Good luck if you decide to try it.
