anthurium, anthurium flowers

Question

One of the flowers on my anthurium plant is growing "pustules" on its spike. They started out green and are now turning yellow (like micro yellow tomatoes!). I water & fertilise the plant regularly, it is getting plenty of light but no direct sunlight (nw exposure).
thx for ur help!

Answer
Hi Josie,

Time for a short botanical lesson. The reddish colored shield is called a "spathe" and it protects and attracts the attention of pollinating insects to the green spike, called a "spadix." Along the spadix are lots of tiny flowers that don't look like flowers as we commonly know them. Some of the flowers will go to seed and develop into the yellow globules you see in the photo. The seeds are most likely sterile because your Anthurium is probably a hybrid.

Clearly, your Anthurium is healthy and well cared for. There is no reason for you to change anything you have been doing. Keep up the good work and simply cut off the flower stem after it no longer looks attractive.

Please let me know if any of this is unclear or if you have any additional questions.
