flies and dwarf alberta spruce

Question
how can i get rid of flies around my dwarf alberta spruce trees ?

Answer
Steve
There are no flies in particular that I know of that are pest on Dwf Alberta Spruce...I would 1st checkout what is near, under or in the spruce that might be attracting them (dog dodo, dead animals, food etc.)...Have you had a drought in your area...Dwf Alberta Spruce don't like real dry conditions...They should be watered 1-2 times per week during drought periods...They should also be fertilized this time of the year with a good organic fertilizer(Espoma Holleytone, etc.)...
You can also chase the flies away by spraying the plants periodically with water from a hose nozzle...The flies won't hurt the plants...So you will have to use a fly nuisance product (sticky pads, fly traps, etc.)...
Hope this helps...

Steve,
If you have a better idea for killing flies than the ones I alluded to please let me know what they are...You didn't say whether they were hurting the plant or you just don't like flies...There are few pesticides approved for spraying flies as nusiance pest...There may be a few pesticides approved for particular fly pest on ornamentals and trees...It is illegal to spray just any pesticide to control all pest...Get to your local garden center or hardware store (put one of the flies in a sealed plastic bag and take it with you for identification)... Ask them what they recommend...
