Dormancy reqiurements

Question
Drosera Noid
Drosera Noid
Hi...i live in southern India...here since we are near to the equator our climate has a very mild winter season....the most drop in temperature being 18 degree Celsius.....so i fear most of my cps would skip dormancy and eventually get weak...i currently own a Sarracenias psitticenia, pinguicula wieiser and moctezume, Drosera Capensis Red and Drosera round one which i dont know the species.....so is there any way i could provide an artificial dormancy in the fridge for these guys....if any one of the above do not need dormancy please let me know....the round Drosera pics are attached below...

Answer
Hi Nirmal,

With all the species you've mentioned there's no need to induce dormancy.  All of those plants are either tropical or sub-tropical with the exception of Sarracenia psittacina.  It, however, is a warm-temperate plant and will just stop growing for about a month each year when the days are shortest.  The Mexican butterworts will also go dormant at times on their own, but none of those need a refrigerator dormancy.

Your rosetted sundew is most likely a Drosera spatulata species, another tropical.  No need for dormancy there either.  From the color of your sundew I can say they need much more sun.  With the exception of the butterworts, all the cp you have are full sun plants.

Good Growing!
