emerald arbs

Question
QUESTION: we planted 20 4' emerald arborvitae trees in August.  They seemed to have done fine.  Until about 1 month ago and they have turned orangy in color from the inside coming outward.  we have watered them and put holly tone on them.

ANSWER: Trish:
Thanks for your inquiry.  Are all of these plants becoming discolored?  What state do you live in?  Has it been exceptionally hot and dry since planting?  Can you take and send a photo of a single tree that is affected as you describe?  Be sure to review your image on your computer - to be sure it is in focus before attaching to your message.

Thanks
Steve

QUESTION: All 20 are affected.  We live in Hammonton, New Jersey.  It was hot when we planted them, and have watered them daily, on the really hot days we watered them twice a day.

Answer
Trish:
I do not suspect an infectious disease, rather an environmental stress- perhaps the period of hot dry conditions in perhaps conjunction with transplant shock.  Just watch closely and be sure to keep them watered ,especially during those extreme dry conditions. On the other hand, don't overwater either.  It may take a bit of time for them to smooth out .  Thanks for sending along a photo!
